Reflecting on the work of one of my favorite sculptors, Constantin Brâncusi (1876-1957), a Romanian artist who was a pioneer of simplicity. For most of his work, Brâncusi took a set of themes — like heads, birds, or fish — and stripped them down to the abstract, leaving the emphasis on the purity of form. These are some favorite examples.
Le Poisson, 1926
La Muse endormie II, 1923
Cock, 1935
The bird, 1928
