Introducing: JH Gothic

We made a typeface !

Introducing JH Gothic, created in collaboration with Paris-based type designer Morgane VanTorre.

In our process, we set out to reimagine traditional signet typography — a twist on traditional Gothic script that honors the provenance of the historic typography while reworking it with modern details and soft subtleties.

Beginning as sketches and research with 15th century source materials, we began a process similar to designing a piece of jewelry —

Diving into how type can and has historically been both a tool for communication while also as a powerful symbol in itself, able to express tone through visual form.

As Morgane explains, “[Type] both speaks to our eyes and to our intellect because the shapes materialize ideas while stimulating our emotions through their visual characteristics. The power of a word’s meaning merges with the magic of its form.”

JH Gothic is now available as an option to be engraved into any of the pieces in our signet and ID collection.
